RIAM Drama & Communication Exams support learners of all ages in developing their unique voice, expressive ability, and stage presence. 
With a progressive syllabus that includes acting, reading aloud, improvisation, and public speaking, these exams nurture self-expression

Exam Structure

Drama & Communication Grade Exams include the following components:

  • Verse Performance: Memorised poem - demonstrating clarity, rhythm, vocal expression, and understanding of meaning.
  • Drama/Prose Performance: Memorised excerpt from a play or story - showing character understanding, mood, and vocal variety. 
  • Selected Skill: One additional skill to showcase from Mime, Improvisation, Devising, or Acting Through Song.
  • Reading Aloud: Read an unseen or prepared passage from prose, verse, or drama, assessed for fluency, phrasing, and expression. 
  • Conversation & Theory: Discuss performances and demonstrate understanding of vocal technique, performance concepts, and relevant theory from current and earlier grades.
